Removal of Gas Logs

CookieJAugust 1, 2013

Please help. We recently bought a house built in the early 70's with a fireplace with gas. At some point, the previous owners added gas logs. We would like to remove these logs to clean and repaint the inside of the fireplace. It seems like a pretty straight forward task, but having never had natural gas or gas logs I am a little leary. I'm a litle lost as to how to handle the "ashes". Is there any special considerations we need to make prior to the removal?
Thanks for any help/suggestions!
