Achieving this finish. Help me please

jbaxFebruary 22, 2011

I am hoping someone out there can help me with ideas/instruction on how to achieve this finish.

I really like the depth of color, light tones, dark tones, distressing, etc. Can I layer different colors of stain? Should I use wax, glaze, etc?

By looking at it, I think it could be a lighter stain with a dark glaze over it, but I could be way off.

What do you think? Throw your ideas out there!

Hi Jbax,

Finishes are so complex these days, it is hard to pin down. I would get some sample boards and try before you do the furniture. It is definitely stained with some kind of antiquing and from the pic it looks like it might be lightly distressed as well. I would start with a stain as my base....lightly and randomly sand back some areas (not all the way through)....then try a dark wax or ebony stain in areas you want to accent and random spots. hope that helps.
