Matte tile in bathroom - cleaning/staining?

shari_n_peteJanuary 17, 2010

We are looking at a matte-finished ceramic tile for our master bathroom. However, we're not sure about the issues that may come up regarding water staining and absorption.

Does anyone have any experience/advice about using and cleaning a matte tile on floors and walls in a bathroom?

The matte finished tiles I've seen are still glazed and have a protective surface.

Is the tile you're considering not sealed/glazed?
If is isn't, I wouldn't recommend it for a bathroom.

Yap, I do agree on this one. It would be better for a sealed tiles.

It's sealed, so it sounds like it'll be fine for our use. Thanks for the input!

The tile in my walk in shower is black matte. It seems to stain like where your shampoo hits it. I have tried Bar keepers, all the gels nothing touches it Please advise.

In between thorough cleanings with dish detergent and water, you can keep glass tile looking good by using a glass cleaner or a solution of vinegar and water (half white vinegar and half water, sprayed on and wiped off). This is especially good for tiles in the bathroom, as these get covered with soap scum easily--the vinegar helps remove soap scum and mineral deposits.
