One last burn before Spring

garygMarch 23, 2009

It's going down to 35F in Baltimore tonight, a few days after the start of Spring.

I have probably the last fire of the season burning tonight.

Went thru 2 cords of wood this winter. It was cold but had almost no snow.

I picked up a nice bunch of wood yesterday that the Utility company cut down and left in piles by the side of the road. About 1/2 cord in large pieces that need to be split.

We'll be burning for about another month or so. But just not 24/7. Currently it's 15 degrees outside and the stove is doing it's thing. We went through about 2 1/2 cords this year. And a lot of people are buying truckloads (5 cords +/-) of log length wood. They cut it and stack it during the summer and fall so it's ready to go next year.
We only had one major snowstorm this year, (28 inches) but it snowed a lot in 6" depths all winter. We still have snowpiles in the yard and where it was plowed usually doesn't go away until late April or early May.

But we know spring is coming. The daffodills are up about 2 inches and we saw our first robin yesterday.
