Removing exterior of fireplace/chimney
I would like to completely remove the exterior portion of my masonry fireplace due to the chimney failing and settling cracks at the base of the exterior portion of fireplace. The interior looks fine and I would like to keep that in tact. I would then like to have a gas top vent insert installed and frame out and side the exterior the same as the existing fireplace profile. Is this a crazy idea? What does that do to the structural integrity of the interior portion of the fireplace?
