All rear vents for gas fireplaces so ugly?

We're building a VERY small addition with a direct vent gas fireplace. Builder had choice of top or rear vent and chose the latter. I didn't realize there would be a metal box sticking out the front of my house or that it would be so big!

It's a Vermont Castings ExtremeView. Is this normal? It's really marring the front of the house...

yea, I never seen them look any different. I have two DVs, but at least they're on the back of my house.
I guess you'll get use to it.
