wood stove moved

leslie_gardenerFebruary 19, 2011

Is it normal for a wood stove to move over time, maybe due to heating and cooling?

My stove weighing in at about 425 pounds has been sitting on a 3/4 inch hardwood floor covered by cement board and tile for a year.

Recently I noticed the stove pipe was out of plumb by two

inches in five feet.

One of the legs is now sitting on the join betwen two tiles...not where I put it.

The floor is rock solid.

Puzzled.

Maybe it is because of an earthquake? :)) Just joking.

On a more serious note, I'd say it happens sometimes...Due to extreme heating/cooling or due to poor materials or manufacturing defects. I had a similar problem, called a professional and he said it happens sometimes. No specific reason except the ones above. I was amazed as well....

You're burning haunted trees. :-)

I've heard of this happening, too.
