remodelling floor to ceiling brick fireplace

sharon_vaFebruary 20, 2009

My DH and I are planning to remove the top half of our floor to ceiling brick fireplace and replace it with drywall and a mantel. We have confirmed that the brick is just a facade and are planning on starting tomorrow. Now I am getting cold feet wondering if we are doing the right thing. Has anyone here has done this project already and if so did you love the results? Pictures would be great if you have them.

Thanks for your input.

We didn't remove the brick, we covered the top portion with drywall and covered the brick on the bottom portion with marble tile.

Good luck with yours. You can flip through the photos in this gallery to see before and after.

Tore out all the brick, hearth and removed the old zero clearance fireplace. Stove company did the new fireplace install, but we did the stonework and mantel.

Beautiful job, Amy. What type of material did you use for the facing? Is it "real" stone or a veneer?
