buying a cd rom

I have a pc with xp and my cd rom/ died. I have 512 mem. what should I buy? I have been on newegg.com and there is so much info I don't know what to pick. Also, I want software for burning. What would you suggest.

CD writers are pretty cheap, even DVD writers. $25 w/free shipping

Just MAKE SURE if you need PATA or SATA

PATA is normal IDE controller (40 pin dual row connector) and set the master/slave jumpers

SATA is Serial ATA (15 pin & 7 pin flat)

They usually come with burning software (Nero, ect)
