Can you open a remote and clean it?

tobr24uNovember 26, 2007

My receiver remote is balky on the down button. The top of the button controls the up volume and there is no problem; the button rocks back and forth and the down volume takes a few minutes to work if it works at all. By pushing it over a period of time it eventually warms up and works almost as well as the up. Can I do anything about this or is it better to leave well enough alone? (All other buttons of which I only use a few are fine.)

They are cleanable. Finding the screws is another problem. They are usually hidden. One is commonly found underneath the batteries. You can use a pencil eraser but tread lightly.

Thanks for the tip, don, and sorry about the double post as I thought this one didn't make it yesterday...
