Hooking up dipole antenna?

I want to hook up a dipole antenna to the radio in my garage. There are no provisions for the hook up. Is there any other way to hook it up? Also, I have a police scanner that quit working the other day. It scans and stops on channels but there is no sound. I also can turn the squelch all the way up and it makes no sound at all. I took it apart to make sure the speaker wires were on. That was the extent of my knowledge. TIA

You could try hooking up the antenna to the existing antenna (if there is one) or to where the antenna used to be :-)

Another option might be to open up the radio and connect the dipole to whatever internally is acting as the antenna. But if you're not comfortable around electronics I would not recommend it. You could hurt yourself or short something out. Not fun.
