To finalize or not to finalize??

alisandeOctober 7, 2007

I just bought a Panasonic VCR/DVD recorder in order to copy our VHS home movies to give to my kids for Christmas. I'd hoped it would be a fairly straightforward process, especially since I've had zero experience recording DVDs, but naturally I came to a fork in the road immediately.

The instructions for copying VHS to DVD give two optionsÂone if you want to finalize the DVD and one if you don't. Do I or don't I? I was planning to make three copies of every DVD. Does that mean I'll have to copy the VHS tape three times on this machine? Or can I use my computer to make the additional copies?

I'm not sure what "finalize" means. Can a finalized DVD be copied?

You should finalize the disc. you can use you computer to make as many copies as you like one they are on the disc and you have the nessessary hardware and software to do so.

To answer your question on finalize
it means that once you finalize a disc it can not be written to again (ever)
Yes it can be copied

If you don't finalize the disc it will only play in the machine it was recorded in.

Thanks, both of you! That's just what I needed to know.
