Are there any retail DVR - R/W to a hard drive? The idea being to to record and play some TV programs, rather like Dish, for example, without having having to fumble with a tape or a disk and without having to subscribe to a satellite or cable service.

Panasonic and Pioneer both used to have them but stopped selling them a few years ago. You may find one on eBay.
