Property tax increased with eco-friendly stuff?

kitchendetectiveJune 23, 2007

Has anyone had their property taxes go up because of adding rainwater collection systems and solar panels to their existing homes?

.

FWIW, here in NY state, it's illegal to raise the value of a place for assessment purposes because of AE equipment . . . . . UNLESS . . . the taxing municipality has specifically precluded this provision. I'd guess most don't even know about it; much less bother to preclude it since it's overall impact to the tax base will be nearly zip . . . .

I had ~ $30k of AE equipment ( including PV panels ) a few years back; and it does not appear that my tax assessment has gone up due to that . . . .

Your mileage may vary . . . . in a different state . .. .
