Electrical box for solar power

scrynJune 5, 2008

We are updating our electrical box and can get a "generator ready" box if we want. It costs an extra 400 dollars though. We are not interested in a generator but are interested in solar power.

Would having this box make it easier to hook up solar panels to our house or does it not help at all?

If you are going to do the usual grid-tie solar PV system, I don't believe that the transfer switch for the generator will help when you go to put solar in.

The grid-tie inverters have the stuff in the inverter to automatically connect or disconnect from the grid depending on what's going on.

You might just call a PV installer -- they should be able to give you a quick answer.
