cfls and triacs
Darn, this doesn't really look like the type of electronics forum I was hoping, but maybe, just maybe, someone here overlaps the usage and engineering departments.
You can't use CFLs on dimmers. We all know that. In fact, the common belief that "it's ok if you leave the dimmer at 100%" is incorrect.
That said, is there any characteristic of a TRIAC that would prevent me from safely switching a CFL on/off with it, assuming I were to ensure that it was on through the entirety of the AC cycle (or at least however much of it was of high enough magnitude to turn it on)?
