Tv compression

joe_mnApril 30, 2012

I have several LCD tv's. 1 has hd cable box and 2nd has sd cable box. I have usual poor picture quality on sd setup but watched a little golf yesterday and pic was noticeably better than other channels. Yes it was a live feed but that channel usually has poor quality like all the other channels. Why does a good feed show up sometimes on a sd feed?

On some SD channels and shows, they will generate the SD feed from the HD version. This provides a better quality source than the original SD camera version and will look better even if they need to encode again.
