32' magnavox crt tv tp3273 - dead?

lwb250March 25, 2008

I have the following TV, which has decided to stop turning on. Since I do have some electronics knowledge (over 20 years of experience with controls) I dove in to see what I could find. Here's what I found so far:

The power supply and fuse is intact. The TV will power up briefly (I can hear the power supply relay click and the flyback transformer start to charge) and the front panel LED blinks twice. No sound, no indication that the HV system is powering up.

I have my trusty Fluke DMM and a set of prints, but I'm not too sure where to go from here. There are no indications of damaged or burned components on any of the boards. I suspect a possible bad cap in a power supply somewhere or a shorted HV transformer.

I have worked on older TVs in years past, so I know the basics. I was just hoping for some guidance so I didn't spend a week foundering around with this...

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Try changing the C420 cap... it should be a 16V 220uF (micro Farad).
