how to stop my dialup from disconnecting

hummersteveFebruary 12, 2007

I have dialup XP and it regularly gives me this warning of due to inactivity is shuting down and even when Im busy typing an email. I have searched and tried many cures from internet turbo, stay alive pro, and changing my phone line and none have worked as of yet. The stay alive pro seemed the most interesting of these when it had a supposedly 5star rating. It doesnt give you enough info on what to do when it doesnt do what its designed to do in the first place.

Typing an email doesn't count as activity, there is no data sent over the connection when typing. If you are getting a message FROM your Windows XP OS, then look at your dial-up settings for a disconnect time-out and either disable it or increase the time period. There may also be a separate setting on the modem properties/settings. Sometimes Windows just goes wonky and triggers a time-out disconnect when the settings ARE disabled. If the setting(s) already are disabled, toggle them ON, then back OFF, that may get it back on track.
