I have a question regarding Biggest Loser....

I don't know if this question has been asked before, if it has please forgive me, I don't get here often.

But what I would like to know is this. How come the participants on this show are encouraged to lose 'big' numbers each week? Haven't we been told that losing a lot of weight is not healthy?

I think that when you weight 300-400+ pounds that those 5-10lb losses are typical. I know for myself that my first 22 pounds went fast and the last 10 are really being stubborn. Just my theory.

yeah, think of it in percentages. If a woman weighs 150lbs and loses 3 lbs thats 2%, if she weighs 400lbs and loses 8lbs that is still 2%.
