6 burners or grill?

lexmomof3December 28, 2012

I'm considering a 36" Capital Culinarian or Blue Star for the range in our new home. We're a family of six. I think four burners are fine for regular nightly meals so I'm considering getting the grill with 4 burners. I've never used an indoor grill so my questions is "do you really use it and is it worth the extra cost?" Thanks!

Do you have an outdoor grill ?

How many times a week do you use it?

How do you feel about a "dirty" grill , or ant least one that doesn't "look" lie brand new everyday?

If you opt for the grill, you will need much higher venting capacity. I have a 6 burner DCS, and installed the recommended 600 cfm vent. A grill would have required 1200 cfm. My local code required heated make-up air for 600 cfms, which ended up costing me around $9K. Out of curiosity, I asked the HVAC guy what a 1200 cfm installation would cost, and he just laughed at me and said,"Don't even THINK about going there, lady!"

I think I'll go with the 6 burner instead of the grill after considering the need for a higher cfm vent. I didn't realize that the cost for make-up air was any where near that much!

I would get 6 burners and get a grill/griddle to go on top of the burners.
