In search of Large Bone China Dinner Plates

BrentJuly 23, 2012

Hello GW,

I've been searching (the past two years) for large plain white bone China dinner plates where the outside diameter is at least 12" with a wide rim 2" or more (I would also like to keep the centre 10" or more as well).

I would prefer the rim to be as flat as possible.

(A charger plate is very close to what I want, but certainly not plastic)

I'm after a plate where I can place buns/bread on the rim negating the use of a side plate.

I would prefer open stock, but will sure check out place settings if anyone finds something close.

TIA

Have you tried replacements.com? They might be also to recommend manufacturers/patterns that fit your needs.

There is also eBay, but that might take some searching.

No I didn't Diane, I've never heard of replacements.com.

Yes, I do agree that E Bay would take quite a bit of persistent searching.

Thanks for the link, I'm off to check it out.

If Apilco in the link doesn't suit you, try googling chop plate or platter. That's the English term for a round platter that's about the size you're looking for.

Thanks antiquesilver,

The Apilco seems to be made of porcelain, but the chop plate seems to be the size and shape that I am after.

Now I just have to find them made of bone China.

The link is for an English pottery that advertises a bone china chop plate - I think it has a rim but it's hard to tell on my monitor. Also, google turns up a lot of rental places that use 12" platters in bone china by Mikasa so they are out there.
