Sous Vide Supreme or other?

Do you have a crockpot? I made my own temperature controller, and use my crockpot for a SV machine. You can purchase a similar controller for about $150.

Thank you. Angie, I had a crockpot. It was "liberated" by DH, who converted it to a slow cooker for cleaning model airplane engine parts. :)

Well, it still is the cheapest way to get into the game that is reasonably easy. I never would have sprung for a SV Supreme just to find out if I liked SV cooking. I do like it enough that I would consider buying a SVS, if I hadn't made my own.

Another vote for a cheap crock pot + a controller. We have the Auber instruments controller. The benefit of doing it this way is that we can also use the set-up as a slow cooker that holds the temperature WE want, not a temperature designed to avoid any risk of legal liability (modern slow cookers run too hot).

We looked at the SVS and decided it was too bulky and too heavy (you have to pick the whole thing up to tip the water out).
