Basement is flooded! Are wet cinder blocks and framing a problem?

threeapplesSeptember 8, 2012

Basically the land was left ungraded and pur recent big rain allowed a huge amount of water to come in under the walk out basement glass doors. I'm really nervous about this. The brick is half up, basement is not drywalled, but at the least it sets the first floor hardwood floor installation back a lot because of all the added moisture. This is so annoying!

Waterproofing should have prevented the interior of the basement cinder blocks ten ft high from getting wet, right? Does this mean the house wasn't waterproofed properly?

Get your contractor to regrade the area so that there is positive runoff and this doesn't happen again. It's his responsibility while the house is under construction. Any replacement or repair should be on his nickle. After time to dry, everything inside will be fine, assuming replacement isn't necessary. Have a serious talk with your contractor.

Not unless the framing stays submerged for many days,

rain on partially built houses, and basements filling with water have been common for a very long time.
