freezer defrost

econoOctober 5, 2012

hello I have a sears upright freezer that is about 6 years old. works great but I would like to adjust the defrost cycle to come on overnight instead of during the day when it is being used. looked at the timer and it has a small dial that can be turned with a screwdriver. would this be a matter of just advancing the timer or could that damage it.

Thanks

If its a defrost timer you can try this. Around 9pm turn the dial until you hear a loud click. It is now in defrost. It's most likely a 12 hour timer so this should keep it from turning on in the middle of the day

Turn slowly. There's a 2nd click very shortly after the first when the defrost period ends. If you pass the first click and trigger the 2nd, crank it back around for another try.

I think you can also unplug it for a few hours each day until it is adjusted accordingly.
