Mixing Metals

eire6678August 6, 2014

I know that typically mixing metals such as knobs, fixtures is a no no. It seems that those " rules" are changing. What does everyone think? For example, was thinking chrome faucet in kitchen, chrome pendants over island, orb in entry way. Maybe even antique brass over dining table?? Our home still is kind of modern farmhouse, with a touch a Nantucket. Thoughts??

I'm even mixing metals in the same ROOM -- gasp! Go forth and mix, I say!

All my faucets will be chrome, my lights are a mix of antique bronze and iron... who knows what the pulls will be?!? Mix, match, mate, meld, and mingle. It's your party and you can do what you want :)

Totally agree with the posters above. I've seen very elegant effects from room to room with different metals. In our home, we are using wrought iron and pewter. Have fun with it and enjoy the process.

I've been planning to mix too and posted the same question a couple of weeks ago, because I tend to lean towards wanting to match everything and I am trying to break away from that.

Chrome faucet and silver handles and pulls and oil rubbed bronze lighting in kitchen, dining room, entry, and family room. Silver colored finishes in both bathrooms and silver finished ceiling fans in bedrooms.

I'm still in debate on ORB or silver colors on outside of the house with the lighting and door hardware.
