fit notebook desk top on hdtv via hdmi

jerry_njAugust 18, 2014

My Windows 7 notebook was plug-and-play to my HDTV using the HDMI interface. But, the Desk Top is too large (about 110% screen size) so the edges of the Desk Top are not displayed completely.

I tired to adjust using the HDTV screen controls (full, zoom, etc.) and nothing helped the over sized DT issue. I also tried the W7 Control Panel and adjusting the resolution did not fix the problem. I note I have used the W7 machine for a few years using a dedicated LCD display and all fits perfectly.

I have an older Sony Bravia and for mine to display properly I have to go into the display settings using the TV remote.

Under "Screen", I set:

Wide Mode to "Full"
Auto Wide to "Off"
Display Area to "-1"

Setting "Display Area" to "Full Pixel" or "Normal" doesn't quite fill the screen.
Setting "Display Area" to "-2" overfills the screen, sorta like what you describe.
Setting "Display Area" to "-1" fills the screen properly.

I'm not saying that's what it is, and from what you say you've tried, it's probably not, but in my case, that's what I had to do.

Thanks, I got what I needed by
1) right click on desk top
2) select screen resolution
3) lower resolution one "step", the next on on the slider bar.
