Appliances chosen!!! NJ/NY store recommendation

DSK1967September 11, 2012

Hi All,

Finally bought the appliances for our renovation! Super excited .....

Props to SILVER CITY Appliances on Rt 59 in Spring Valley NY (Rockland County) ..... solid prices (service still pending lol) .... Max is your man there!

So here we go ....

Miele Futura Crystal G 5175 (it was a toss up between this and Bosch comparable)

Wolf Rangetop SRT366 (6 burner)

Sub Zero 48" BI-48SID/S/PH

Electrolux Icon Wall/Micro Combo E30MC75JPS

Hood - Best 500 cfm, pro insert

We were thinking seriously about doing a separate freezer and fridge, but decided against .... about $4K more, we have a basement fridge for storage, and would rather have the extra cabinets than the extra fridge space, time will tell if we were right.

Still debating a beverage center .... we are not big wine drinkers, thoughts?

Were also thinking second, lower-end dishwasher for the kitchen ..... read some good things, but I think we'll stick with one .... I know it would be great for holidays, but can't justify it for such sporadic use

And one other thing .... we liked, and would have gotten the Wolf Wall oven .... but Wolf microwaves are (IMHO) ugly as sin .... like annoyingly ugly. The Electrolux is a gorgeous combo, looks so nice, and has gotten decent reviews.

We spent a little more than I planned but figure the kitchen is the focal point of the house, and Silver City gave us a solid price on the package .....

Glad it's done! Was kinda stressful, but in a good way!!!

I am currently putting together the appliance list for my new build, and have come up with almost the exact set. My feelings over the Wolf microwave as well as most built in microwaves is that they are kludgy looking with a microwave embedded in a frame.

But, I am worried about the single appliance with oven and microwave in one unit. Microwaves seem to be a bit fragile these days.

For those reasons, I've been looking at the standalone electrolux microwave which looks like the oven, or a speed oven such as ge or Electrolux, combined with a single icon wall oven.

Have you also considered a warming draw?

Actually made a change .... replacing the Electro. combo with a Wolf single and Wolf Drawer Microwave .... they look really good, and most Wolf reviews give it consistantly high ratings ... with the rebate the Wolf Combo is a few hundred more than Electro, and I have been worried about a combo oven/micro, given that a micro problem affects the oven.

And the Wolf drawer micro functions as a warmer as well so thats resolved!

This is the exact predicament I'm in! I can't get over how ugly the Wolf microwave is, so I'm considering scratching the whole thing. I had thought about doing the Wolf oven with the Microwave drawer built-in below. Questions: Are you happy that you went with the Wolf oven? Did you install the micro drawer below the oven? Did you go with the Wolf L-Series or E-series single oven? I think the E series matches the micro drawer...

hhamilton- I went with a Wolf E and a GE advantium monogram 240- as I wanted a true speed oven and the appliances coordinate almost perfectly - if I had upgraded to the Wolf L series - even better but was already over budget=
I know that doesn't exactly answer your question to DSK - but just thought I would keep it close to the top.

Here is a link to our kitchen reveal - I think it is about the 4th picture down showing the mixed ovens.

Have fun shopping!
