gas dryer originally connected with 3/8" pipe, Can I use 1/2" one

janesylviaSeptember 19, 2013

I am moving to newly bought house. The kenmore elite gas dryer was originally connected with 3/8" gas connector.
I bought the BrassCraft safety+plus gas installation kit with green safety+plus valve(60,500BTU) and 1/2" gas connection pipe. Can I use this? The kit comes with 3/8" adapter. Or is it better to buy the 3/8" gas connector with purple safety+plus valve (23,800 Btu)? My dryer's output is 22000 Btu.

Thank you very much.

Yes, you can use the 1/2" flex. The connector ratings are maximum btu's, not to be exceeded by the appliance. No problem with too large a supply line, pressure stays the same, and dryer only uses what it needs.

I recommend that all gas line modifications be inspected by your gas supplier for leaks. This may be mandatory in some localities.
