marble grout lines 1/16 or 1/8?

Eden-ManorOctober 5, 2013

Has anyone experienced any long term issues with their marble shower with 1/16 grout spacing?

Our builder says we can't do 1/16 and wants us to use 1/8, but it was advised to us by several people to use 1/16 and we are pushing for it.

My husband is concerned with long term grout cracking as that was suggested by our builder.

Thank you!

Here is a link that is informative. It sounds like you can do 1/16". the tiles need to be very precisely sized with this small grout line according to this reference. The grout will need to be unsanded at the 1/16" size. Sanded grout is used for larger spaces of 1/8" or greater.
