android is the operating system that the PDN runs on just like your computer runs on the windows operating system. Android is a type of Linux Operating system which is by Google.
There are several versions of Android just like windows as they update it the new versions have new names and new numbers associated with it. The PDN uses Android 2.1 the newest version of Android is called Honeycomb and is 3.0.

version 2.1 is Eclair
2.3 is Gingerbread

this wiki may help
Android (operating system)

some phones also have Android Operating system too.

I use a version of Linux called Mepis Linux on some of my computers instead of windows
