Drain weepholes

lisadluOctober 26, 2013

I asked the tile guy who is giving me an estimate to do my shower if he uses pea gravel around the drain weepholes and he says he uses sand. Is this ok? I thought pea gravel gives some extra drainage. Will sand clog easily? Thanks!

I can't say that sand won't work, but I've never heard of anyone using it before.

With the goal being an avenue for drainage, and for the drainage medium to not get gunked up over time, I'd prefer something more coarse than sand.
