Freestanding Wolf range and popup downdraft a good idea?

GatorsmomAugust 8, 2012

The sales lady at the local appliance dealer said it would be a bad idea to put a Wolf gas range into my island with a pop up downdraft. She said that because of the BTUs of the range there's an increased risk of fires being sucked down into tthe pop-up downdraft. Not sure I worded that right but it sounded scary. She said she'd feel much more comfortable selling me a Jennair freestanding range with down draft (pop up or integrated). Is this just her sales schpiel or does she raise a good point? Help!

With the exception of Dacor, no manufacturer supports a popup-downdraft with their ranges. Popup-downdrafts are intended for cooktops not ranges. Jennair makes a range with a built-in downdraft, not a popup, I believe. Your saleslady is correct - if you insist on putting a range in an island, you'll need an island hood - although you'd be better off putting your range against a wall, not in the island.
