Strange green greasy stuff on dishwasher filter

Busugo213August 19, 2013

The filter of my dishwasher get a coat of green/grey greasy stuff on the filter. (see pictures)
It is not from the food it rinses.
It looks like it comes from the inside of the dishwasher.
The dishwasher works perfectly, dishes are clean.
If I clean the filter, after a while the greasy stuff is back there.

The dishwasher is an Electrolux ESF 6243
I tried asking Electrolux but they said they never heard of it

My fear is that it can be some dangerous substance.

Thank you for the help.

How do you know it isn't from food or dishes? If you clean it and then use the dishwasher and it comes back it could be from that.

But, lets assume it isn't, what else could it be?

Have you change detergents recently?
Do you have hard water in your area?
How often do you run your DW?

I'm sure there are other possibilities, but those are what pop in to my head right away.

Hi Phi,

thank you for the reply.
I think that the dirty stuff is not from food but the dishwasher because the dirty is concentrated on the top hole of the filter and not uniformely distributed on it. (see picture I posted before and the new one.)
After I have cleaned the filter, it takes some weeks before the dirty builds up again. I always rinse dishes, pots and pans to remove any residue of oil or food.

I have tried different kind of detergents, liquids and in tablets. I do not know about the water, but I add salt. I run the DW once a day, full load.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

It almost looks like something is floating on top of the water as the machine runs - like a layer of green suds.

I'd clean the filters very well, place them into the top rack and run the dishwasher through an Intensive 70C with a dishwasher cleaner.

Maybe open your machine during the wash (some minutes after the detergent dispenser pops open) and check for... well, green water or suds? Really bizzare.

You could also try the forum I attached below. Many people from Europe are there, too.
