tub drain trap ~ plumbing help, please!

ship4uSeptember 3, 2013

Our house is 1920's and I removed the old cast iron tub. As luck would have it, the new drain trap will need to be installed between 2 floor joists that are only 3 1/2 inches apart. I'm worried that, if we ever had a serious clog in the future, I would never be able to access the trap or be able to snake it out.
Any suggestions to present to my plumber? Should I ask him to create a "clean out" access in the overflow pipe, just in case? Should I be concerned?
The new tub is acrylic and will have a removable apron on the front.
Thanks!

When we had our plumber snake the trap and drain line for our tub he did it through the tub overflow. The trap itself was accessible through a removable panel in the adjacent wall, but he said there was no need to remove the trap to run a snake through and remove the clog in the drain line..
