Need recommendations for video capture device

Pooh BearApril 30, 2013

I'm looking for a device to record video on my computer.
I am looking at USB devices but every one I have looked at gets bad or mixed reviews. I have one free PCI slot in my computer. I have a tuner card, but I can't get it working. I'm thinking of getting the device linked below. Windows XPsp3. Opinions??

Thanks. ~Pooh Bear

You want to record video from what source?

From my PVR. Just short snippets of video.
RCA outputs from the PVR.

I got the device yesterday. I installed it and tried it out some.
It's fairly straight forward to install and use. It will suit my needs just fine.

It captures video in a transport screen (.ts) and then converts it
to mpeg2. So far I have only got it to work with the included
video software. (WinTV 7). I tried Windows Movie Maker and I
got sound but not video. I tried VirtualDub video processor but
I got nothing when I tried to capture video. It didn't work at all.

So far it will fit my needs. It makes DVD quality mpeg2 video.

Just an update after more testing.

On longer video captures (5min+) the sound will drop out
for half a second or shorter. It is noticeable on playback.
I presume it does this to keep the audio in sync with the video.
It still suits my needs just fine, but it is something to consider.

That is some interesting info. Thank you.
I don't mind using WinTV, but I have always used Vdub in the past.

Thanks.
