Shower head is too high - how to fix?

finocchiaAugust 24, 2011

My DH hates low shower heads so he had it installed high. Now I can't reach the shower head but it works well for him. I'd like to lower the showerhead about 3 inches.

Setup details: The supply comes out of the wall 6ft 11in above the floor. I have a standard ~5" shower arm and a standard showerhead. The bottom of the showerhead is about 6ft-5in above the floor. The shower is small, about 3' x 3' with a ceiling height of 7ft 2in.

I already have a separate handshower on another wall so I do not want to replace it with a bar and handshower.

Options being considered include:

1. A longer 9-10" shower arm to drop it 2-3".

2. An adjustable shower arm but these all seem too long at 10".

3. Possibly a rain shower or something that doesn't need adjustment. I just need to be able to direct the stream away from me or get out from under it in the small shower.

You could try a goose-neck shower arm., perhaps. They angle up and then down, designed for rainshowers from the wall vice the ceiling. You can get them in shoreter lengths than the adjustable shower arms, which may work better in a smalller space, allowing you to step out of the waterflow.
