Word 2003 to Word 2010--format issues

ginny12March 22, 2014

I have a new computer running Windows 7. I bought MS Home and Office with Word 2010 for it. I am a writer with many docs created with Word 2003 and I'm having problems "translating" them into Word 2010. For example--

I use Times New Roman 12 pt but it looks huge in Word 2010 so have to change all to Word 10 pt.

Two clicks on Enter makes a double space between paragraphs on Word 2003 but only one click for Word 2010. So my old docs now have huge four-space gaps between paragraphs.

That's for starters. Google hasn't provided an answer on how to keep a doc looking the same in transitioning from Word 2003 to Word 2010. Thanks.

You should be able to click Page Layout then the small downward pointing arrow under Spacing to correct the 2 line drop from a new pop up menu.

10 or 12 point should be constant, are you seeing the discrepancy on a printed doc or the screen view?

I think I fixed the spacing issue but had to go to 9 pt to make Word 2010 look the same as Word 2003.

My current issue is that centering a word or phrase as titles for a new part of a doc is off. They don't line up. I have deleted and redone each but they are all skewed slightly left or right.

Thanks, Owbist. Your advice gratefully received.

I'm not 100 percent sure but I believe Word 2010 has a Compatibility Mode that automatically adjusts existing documents from one version of Word to another.
