bathroom soffit removal

Form1fanAugust 5, 2014

Hi Everyone,

So I guess I'm asking an opinion question of everyone. We recently renovated a bathroom after moving into our home. In the midst of the rush to get it done since we didn't have another shower, we completely forgot to address removing the soffit above the tub (don't ask why) before tiling. My question/opinion is if I carefully remove the soffit to increase the ceiling height, will it be easy to drywall with the existing tile there? We would leave the tile at the height it is now and not add to it. I am just nervous about damaging the existing tile and or it looking like crap because it will be hard to place the tile finish trim now that the grout is all dry behind the tile. Has anyone tried this in the past? Any recommendations?

Are you sure it's completely empty and not there for a reason?

Yes because we had replaced the drywall on the ceiling so we had it down to the studs there.
