Best paint color for small bathroom

susanrosaJuly 19, 2012

Hello all - I'm a longtime member and lurker, first time poster. I have a small (5x7) bathroom. Floors are carrera marble basketweave with grey dots. Shower tiles are white subway with basketweave border. The vanity is maple finished with oil, so it is yellow more than pink. The walls are all white right now. It's a bit stark and clinical. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a wall color that would pull everything together without darkening the space too much. Photo attached. THANKS!!!

PS - FYI, blue tape over sink and toilet shows the size of the new, large mirror that will be going in soon.

We updated a 5 x 8 bathroom a couple winters ago. White fixtures and tile for the tub/shower. Painted the maple cabinet white and installed gray marble floor tile, then painted the walls a medium gray - C2, Monday Morning.

I don't believe your natural wood would conflict with color on the wall any more than would natural wood flooring.

Everything is so neutral that you can go in any color direction you want.

BM soft fern would be pretty if you want a green tone. But you could easily do a soft blue or a beige or a tan or gold or you could go to taupe. Lots of choices.

Thats what maple should look like, I love it. I think a soft greenish or blueish would be pretty. I especially like greens. I don't know what BM Soft Fern is like but that sounds pretty.

I used BM Titanium in my kitchen with cherry cabinets and I love the wood tones with this very very light gray green. It is also represented in BM's white collection. Here is my kitchen. You may not be able to see with reliability, the color, but you can see how light and soft it is compared to my medium colored cabinets. I think it would look pretty with a lighter wood too. Nothing better though than painting up sample boards and hanging them in your room to watch over several days. The backsplash on the counter is a marble that has a lot of tans mixed in, along with white and gray-maybe similar to your floor tile. My tile is from The Tile Shop and called Lansdale.

Perhaps a light gray with some green undertones (BM Gray Owl)? Another option is BM Nimbus - it's a fantastic gray with no undertones and looks great with Carrera marble. I recently paired it with Carrera basketweave in my small bath:

Of course size has nothing to do with color...I purposely chose a deep color for my powder room, and then it was all wrong so I had to go deeper still. Now I love it. Other people either love it or think it's just nuts. I've seen many gorgeous, small powder rooms done up as little jewel boxes in the most intense colors that are just fabulous.

I call it my wild a$$ bathroom, inspired by the lady of shalott (which is hanging on the wall in there.)

Oh I meant to mention that I acutally used BM soft fern on the ceiling in this powder room.

Annie, very fun powder room. That color is committed. I had a kitchen that color in the early 70's and loved it.
