defroster timer help

the knob with the arrow on it ive tried turning it intil i hear the click and leave it alone but the freezer keeps freezing up and i have to turn it again and again

Not sure what appliance you are showing in the picture but if it is a refrigerator, here is what we did....Not sure this will help you at all but years ago we had a GE refrigerator with freezer on top. It was a self-defrosting unit and one day we noticed it was not defrosting. We did not want to pay for repairing it and could not afford a new refrigerator, so we put a timer on that the refrigerator plugs into and then timer in the wall socket. We sat it to turn the refrigerator off every night for about 4 hours or however long, I don't remember. Worked a long time until we could afford a new refrigerator.
