How to move frameless glass shower door rail

DesertDenizen201June 18, 2012

Our contractor just installed the top rail for our frameless glass shower doors about 1/2 inch too high. The hardware is at the lowest possible setting. The glass doors are the highest possible standard order, about 80" high. Higher doors will be custom and very expensive. If we unscrew the upper shower door rail and lower it, what are the considerations for doing this properly, especially for waterproofing the drywall. We have Kerdi panels. We did paint some green dragon in the pan and on some other places in the shower, but I'm not sure if it was painted where the shower rail is screwed in. Thanks.

Is this screwed into sheetrock or into tile? Whatever it is screwed into will need to be repaired and the holes do not sound like they are moving very far so be certain that you do not break one into the other because then you will have a mess especially in sheetrock.

Thanks, millworkman. Hopefully, we'll be finishing up the bathroom next week. I'm really leaning towards new shower doors.
