Can appliances be stored in a garage?

askepticMay 13, 2014

I just purchased a new Frig, Oven, Cooktop, and Dishwasher. I am still in the process of building my home although decided to make the purchase due to the sales going on at a local store.

Would be be OK to store these four appliances in a garage that is not humidity controlled? It sounds like a silly question, although I am not sure if the finish, seals, or whatever would be harmed. They are all stainless items.

Our 3 month old fridge lived in the garage for about 2 years because the fridge hole in our new house was about 1/2" too small. When the time came for it to come indoors into the new kitchen it was just fine.

Understand the warranty starts the day you purchase - so if you have them in the garage for an extened period of time, your warranty period will be shortened.

We stored our dcs range in the box on a pallet in the garage for a year with no ill effects. The warranty started at installation rather than at purchase.

The only problem might be inspection --- if there is damage it would not be seen/documented immediately which is important to do.
