Deck mud curing

JoshuaOJune 13, 2014

I'm building a large shower pan. For my preslope, I used "sakrete" sand mix for 3/4 of it, ran out of concrete, and then mixed Portand and sand to a approx 4:1 ratio to complete the preslope.

My concern is that the Portland mix part of the pan still seems wet after 3 days, while the sakrete side is a pale gray.

The sand I used for the mix was outside and already wet -- so I just mixed in the Portland, and added a little water to get to the deck mud consistency.

The stuff is hard but still clearly not dryIt's a brownish color vs the pale gray of the sakrete.

Can I lay my PVC liner over this or do I need to wait until it dries? Will it dry? Any pro advise much appreciated!!

A few more pictures will help

How do you test for dampness ? By feel ? Color?

If it has set for 3 or 4 days you are ready to cover it. The difference is in the size of the sand particles and the amount of portland.

Well, it's darker significantly and feels humid.

I think I'm going to go ahead with the pvc liner. It's been 5 daysâ¦.
