Silverware

Why do I get brown water marks on my silverware (mostly knives, but on other things too)?

It was a relatively expensive set that I bought 3 months ago. The dishwasher was bought brand new 3 months ago as well and cleans (and dries) everything else very well.

The water marks almost look like rust, but they rub off to a clean finish.

I get this both when emptying the DW right after it finishes drying and when waiting until the morning to empty it.

What gives?

Only on your silverware? Do you see it on plates and glasses? Are lou looking for it on other things?
My first guess would be rust in the system somewhere.
See it the spots are on anything else.

I had this problem with my steak knives. I'd wash them in the dishwasher. They came out clean but with rust spots on the blades. I'd rub the blades off with paper towels. Not sure where the rust came from. I believe they are made of stainless steel, definitely not silver or silverplate. This happened about five years ago. For some reason,it has now stopped. I do keep the rinse aid dispenser of my DW full of Jetdry.

I also use Jetdry, Cascade for detergent.

This site will tell you everything you need to know about your flatware, whether it's sterling or stainless. Specifically covers the topic of rust stains.

Hope this helps...
