Best small portable carpet/upholstery cleaning machine?

cfb123November 22, 2007

Hi everyone;

Great forum ... just found you.

I am leaning towards buying a smallish cleaning machine for small jobs -- carpet spots or for upholstered furniture.

I know about the Bissell Little Green machine but haven't read very good reviews of it on the internet. Most people complain that it has poor sucking ability.

I am interested in hearing your opinions. Any product you swear by?

I have a large Oreck carpet shampooer that is a piece of junk as far as I am concerned, though if you use the hand-held attachment it does a pretty good job. But it has many awful design flaws ... so don't want to get burned again by buying a product like this before asking others opinions.

Thanks!

I have the Little Green Machine and it "sucks" just fine. Use it to clean up after spills and accidents my two children have had since they were babies. Good size to lug in for those small areas. I have done the whole entry way with it, but it is a bit small for that big an area.

Hi jobird & dizzy8:

Thanks for the replies. FWIW, I went out the other day and bought a Little Green Machine. Haven't tried it out yet. I hope it works and "sucks" fine :-)

I have the Bissell LGM -- a word of caution. The nozzles will often clog even after the first time using. You will go to use it again and it will no longer spray out the solution. This is a very common complaint.

All I need is fill the sink with HOT water and suck up water with the attachment. The mildew that was clogging the spray nozzles ended up in the tank. I dumped the tank and went about cleaning.

I had good results using the LGM on my stairs. I ended up with a tank full of very dirty water.

Thanks for the alert on the clogging and how to remedy the problem.

I put my LGM in the trash can after a couple of months. I used it on my stairs and noticed it quit sucking up the water. We cleaned it and checked for a clog and nothing- it just quit sucking up water.
Of course I couldn't return it- pretty disappointed in it.
The LGM sucks in a bad way.

I bought a small Hoover spot cleaner, similiar to the LGM and ended up giving it to the local thrift store after 1 use. I went back to filling a bucket with hot water and Pine Sol disinfectant. Works well for cleaning up after my dogs and my elbow grease beats any little machine with a brush on it.

Hi all:
Thanks for more input ... believe it or not I still have not taken the LGM out of it's box to give it a test run. Guess I better try it out soon or just take it back to Wally-Mart for a refund. (Talk about procrastination ... lol)

My children just bought me the the little bissell proheat
machine for my furniture. Very disapointed. The water goes on the furniture and then the brush rollers stop spinning, the dirt particles get stuck in the brush and It has horrible suction and now my beautiful light living room has brown staining due to the machine not sucking. I'm returning it tomorrow......I
