Cleaning Plugged Steam Irons

nerdyshopperSeptember 8, 2013

I have a steam iron that hss some of the inner water lines plugged from using tap water instead of distilled. Does anyone know a method of cleaning the scale out of a steam Iron. I once tried white vinegar and had that smell for as long as I used the iron.

I use baking soda and water.

And vinegar - and you can mix (white distilled) vinegar with the baking soda too, which will create oxidation.

Most how-to websites say just use use white vinegar - after physically cleaning the exterior.

Colas has some phosphates. If you want to tinker, but only if you are a tinkerer, try some Coca Cola. Perhaps dilute a sugarless cola for the first try.
