Biult in ice maker

rocks911April 7, 2012

I have a concrete slab home and want a built in ice maker installed in the kitchen. I dont have a fllor drain. I could sacrifice a cabinet within 10' or less from the sink. Is this something more or less easily doable?

Has anybody done this?

Maybe I could retrofit a wetbar that is NEVER used as a wetbar?

Or the laundry area?

Tired of running for ice but dont know what to do.

No personal experience with this particular unit but do have experience with several other types that make cloudy bullet-shaped cubes. RV-ers and travel-trailer folks have used them for years. Never encountered one that didn't work well.

Manual-fill. No drain. 2-400 dollars typically. Search the web and you will find quite a few alternatives. Typical capacities 25-35 lbs per day. Lots of folks bag the "wet" cubes and keep in freezer. When not in use, they un-plug them and put them away.

Here is a link that might be useful: Counter-top no-drain clear ice machine.

You can get an under counter ice maker with a pump to drain the bin. The drain would connect to the sink drain like a dishwasher does. When water is produced either by the ice making process or from melting ice in the bin it is pumped to the drain. It is not a large hose so can be routed through the cabinets. U-line and SubZero make these units. Most units have the option of pumps, but clear ice machines get expensive.
