vanity countertop and sink redo

porcelain6April 26, 2013

we are going to change the surface of the bathroom vanity. it probably will be corian, but then again maybe not. but my real problem is with the sink -should it be mounted under the counter or should it have the rim over. what are the prox and cons of each choice. thanks for your help

The countertop material that you choose will determine in part what your sink options are. If you go with laminate, you'll need a drop in sink. This is my least preferred sink type because of the raised profile and caulk/silicone that will be required. It's harder to clean around it and keep it looking nice in the long term.

If you go with Corian, I'd suggest getting an integrated sink for a seamless look. We put Corian in our powder room about ten years ago and it is so easy to clean because there is no edge or caulk to fuss with.

Our recent bathroom renos have granite and quartz counters which allow for undermount sinks... love them for their ease in cleaning and unobtrusive look.
