How much for a steam shower?

debinnhApril 3, 2012

I am just getting started with redoing my master bath. Since there is no room for a tub and shower, I am going with a shower. I was looking at steam showers and was wondering how much they cost. I am not looking for a prefab unit, but one that gets built to my dimensions. It seems to me, the extra cost over the plain shower would be the steam generator and associated plumbing and parts, tiling the ceiling and a taller door.

i am doing a custom steam shower/regular shower also. The added cost is mainly the steam generator and components and their installation. Also, your builder must slope the ceiling. You do need to buy extra tile because you have to tile the ceiling also. Also, your enclosure must be completely airtight, so you need to spend more on the shower door and possibly a transom. Also need to spend a little more for a higher powered bath vent fan. Also need to make sure that they do a vapor barrier system and not just a moisture barrier system. My builder is not charging me extra for his labor but others may.
